Chapters scheduled for read along: 1-3 I’m celebrating the release of Elise Kova’s new book with a read along for The Alchemists of loom. I loved this book. It’s gritty and steampunky and literally everything I want from a fantasy. You can check out my review. I’m thrilled today to have a chance to interview Elise about this book. I hope you will enjoy hearing about her thought process when she wrote it as much as I did. We get to meet Ari in these chapters and she has a very interesting pastime. Have you ever stolen something? (even accidentally) Stolen something? Other than the hearts of men and women around the globe? (I AM TOTALLY KIDDING) One thing that I can remember… I made a friend at a martial arts studio I was going to in college and she was also into anime. She lent me her DVD of the live action adaptation of NANA and I held onto it forever because I was busy with school and just never got around to watching it. She ended up moving away and I found it in my drawer a few weeks later. I wasn’t able to get it back to her in time… The worst part? I still haven’t watched it! Ari never intended to become a thief. If you weren’t an author, what would you want to do? […]

I haven’t done a #Bookstagram Roundup for a few months. I’ve been finding it hard to do…. well, pretty much everything. However, I love #bookstagram because it’s easy to check out a few pictures in a spare moment and it doesn’t seem like taking a picture should take as much time as blogging. Of course, this is misleading cause you can spend hours setting up the perfect shot! Which challenges are you doing this month? #bookishearworms hosted by @liveandbreathwords @martha_lostinpages #bookloversapril17 hosted by @fantasybooksrus @alyazialovesbooks @awesamreads @thebookiebee @sophthereader #maasmay17 hosted by @lulumoonowlbooks @avoiding_reality_ #nbrchallenge hosted by @the.nocturnal.readers.box #rfabmay17 hosted by @reviews_from_a_bookworm #yamatters hosted by @centreyouthlit #aamay17 hosted by @alyssathebookgirl @pagesofamber #alliwantformayisabook hosted by @beautyandthebeastlybooks @honeydukesbooks @moriahchavis @autmnmaryreads
Lieutenant Craig Youngly has only ever wanted one thing in his life — to join the illustrious Golden Guard. In pursuit of his goals, he has found himself protege to Raylynn Westwind, notable Guard member and favorite of Prince Baldair. He has fought for two years in the sweltering North and now prepares to embark on a mission on behalf of the Guard that could secure his long-sought membership. It’s the opportunity Craig has been waiting for, until Raylynn’s attention turns toward another swordsman, Daniel Taffl. Daniel has always been a man of modest aspirations. As a farmer’s son from the East, he seeks a soldier’s wage to support a future for the woman of his dreams when he returns from the front lines. It isn’t until he’s conscripted into Craig’s mission that he learns his sword-craft has caught the eyes of the powers above him. Craig sees his mission as an opportunity to impress the guard and exert his authority over Daniel. Daniel sees it merely as the chance to secure a more financially stable future. Their goals seem too simple to go awry. But, in the perilous jungles of the North, luck is something both men find to be in short supply. THE FARMERS WAR is the final installment in the Golde Guard Trilogy, prequel stories to the AIR AWAKENS SERIES: Book One, THE CROWN’S DOG Book […]
The synopsis AND the author have me chomping at the bit for this book. I loved Graudin’s Wolf by Wolf series which is an alternate history WWII story. Invictus includes time-traveling, plundering pirates, and a mysterious girl that has life-changing knowledge (anyone smell romance, because I do!) The synopsis mentions the Titanic and I’m interested to see how real history mixes with Graudin’s imagination again. Her writing is superb and her ideas are always original. This September release can’t come soon enough for me!
I’m so excited to share this cover with you today! It’s not often that a cover really grabs me. This one I really liked. It also has an intriguing blurb! I’d love to hear about it if this catches your attention. I will be on the lookout for more information about this one in the future. Tanzy Hightower is not crazy. At least that’s what she tells herself. She also tells herself that the shadows stalking her in the woods aren’t living, murderous beings. On the third anniversary of her father’s death, Tanzy revisits the woods and the shadows that took him. She quickly realizes those monsters lurking in the dark now have their sights set on her. Neither Tanzy nor life as she knows it escapes unchanged when she is introduced to a world…unseen. Two strangers seem too willing to help her navigate her new reality: Vanessa Andrews, a doctor’s trophy wife with a southern drawl, and Lucas, a quiet, scarred man with timing that borders on either perfect or suspect. But Tanzy has secrets of her own. Desperate for answers and revenge, Tanzy must put her faith in their hands as her past comes calling and the shadows close in. With wild blood coursing through her veins, will Tanzy’s choices shed light on the shadows of her past, or will they bring forth the darkness within her? Scroll […]
I had posted that I was excited about The Black Witch by Laurie Forest. I have been busy. See my recent life update for why and I haven’t been as active on twitter as I have in the past. I had missed a lot of discussion about this book. I appreciate a friend for pointing out all the people who have read this book and found it contains negative racial stereotypes. This is not something I want to promote. Please check out the following threads and posts regarding this book. Not a Half-Breed: My reaction to The Black Witch by Laurie-Ann Forest reminder that THE BLACK WITCH by laurie forest (harlequin may *17) is racist. spread the word. detailed review: https://t.co/iVnzCqCnSp — another 1 👄s the 💨 (@bookavid) March 15, 2017 Okay I'm going to start a new thread. February was a disappointing #bookstagram month for me. I didn’t do very well. I have a lot going on in my life right now outside of the book world, but I hope to redeem myself in March. I don’t go to many author events. There’s a variety of reasons for it. I’m shy in groups, I don’t like crowds and I often don’t have anyone to go with me. It’s no fun to go alone. However, I’ve committed myself to go to three different author events in the next three weeks and I’m determined to enjoy them. If the first event is any indication, I’m in for an amazing 3 weeks. It might have even changed my mind about author events entirely. I ran into Elise out front and got a picture of her with her face. She was just excited about seeing the poster in the window as I was! Here is the set up! It looked so professional. I was lucky to grab a seat up front. There were tons of copies of The Alchemists of Loom too. The signing was amazing because Elise spent the entire time answering questions about both her series. I also got to see a glimpse of the cover of The Dragons of Nova. I will definitely be participating in the cover reveal, if I get the chance. My copy of The Prince’s Rogue was the first Elise has seen in person! She said she usually orders one for herself but she hadn’t gotten around to it yet. It was fun to watch because she hadn’t thought […]
We all have our auto-buy authors. Those authors that we buy no matter what they write and when. Patricia Briggs is definitely one of mine. I fell in love with Mercy Thompson years ago with the first book in the series, Moon Called. This series has high stakes and relate-able characters. It’s not easy to read or even easy to like sometimes but it keeps me coming back. I have to know what happens next to Mercy and Adam. This next one is no exception. It sounds like Mercy has gotten herself in real trouble, far away without her support system. I can’t wait to see what happens. Patricia Briggs will be in Houston as part of her release tour and I will be there! I’m waiting to buy this one until I’m there so I can have her sign it. It’s makes the wait longer, but it’s worth it!
