Harper Spring Tour!

Harper Spring Tour!

I’m so excited to be a part of Harper Summer Tour today! I have a fantastic book to share with you today as well as some amazing giveaways. You definitely don’t want to miss them. Read carefully because there is a secret password somewhere in my blog post. You will need it if you want to enter all three giveaways! I’ve read the first two books in this series, so i’m happy to share the prequel now. These books are creepy mysteries that are complicated enough to appeal to everyone but tame enough that they won’t terrorize Middle Grader readers. Just because I love to be scared, I know that it’s not something everyone enjoys. In this book the atmosphere is spooky but you should be able to still sleep at night. I don’t know about you, but I also love prequels. I love hearing about how the story that I’ve become familiar with got it’s start. I love seeing where the characters that I’ve gotten to know have come from. I can’t wait to read about how everything started. I’m sure that you will enjoy what’s sure to be a fun and easy read as well! FFBC Tour: Review Shallow Graves by Kali Wallace

FFBC Tour: Review Shallow Graves by Kali Wallace

Shallow Graves by Kali Wallace Published by Katherine Tegen Books on January 26th 2016 Genres: paranormal, Fantasy, Young Adult Pages: 368 Format: ebook Source: Edelweiss Buy on Amazon For fans of Holly Black and Nova Ren Suma, a gripping, hauntingly atmospheric novel about murder, revenge, and a world where monsters—human and otherwise—lurk at the fringes. When seventeen-year-old Breezy Lin wakes up in a shallow grave one year after her death, she doesnÂ’t remember who killed her or why. All she knows is that sheÂ’s somehow conscious—and not only that, sheÂ’s able to sense who around her is hiding a murderous past. In life, Breezy was always drawn to the elegance of the universe and the mystery of the stars. Now she must set out to find answers and discover what is to become of her in the gritty, dangerous world to which she now belongs—where killers hide in plain sight and a sinister cult is hunting for strange creatures like her. What she finds is at once empowering, redemptive, and dangerous. Tense, complex, and wholly engaging, Shallow Graves is a stunning first novel from Kali Wallace. The biggest problem with this book is that the synopsis absolutely doesn’t do this book justice. I’m not sure what I was expecting after reading the back but this book is 1000 times better than the synopsis makes it sound. I think the […]

CCB Review: The Dead Circle

CCB Review: The Dead Circle

In The Dead Circle, Chris and Sarah are renovating an old library in downtown Detroit. They are safe, warm and dry when everything seems to go to hell. A woman takes a drink of water. Then suddenly she strips all of her clothes off and starts walking in a circle around a park. She’s gone. The water is totally contaminated. Any amount of water, even a drop, causes the same reaction. Do you know how difficult it is to avoid water?!? I love horror novels and I have read many. Zombie novels are a particular favorite of mine. They are the kind of horror that sticks with me and has me ruminating on the story for weeks afterward. The Walking Dead comics, World War Z, and especially Cell by Stephen King all really got me thinking. The Dead Circle definitely falls into this category. I found myself thinking about every step I took while reading it. It didn’t help that it was raining outside. This book is a combination between zombie horror and apocalyptic survival. There are naked people walking around and around outside. The water is poisonous. Chris and Sarah can’t leave their house without taking multiple, horrible risks. Every decision has to be weighed and measured. Even the smallest mistake means instant death. This book is a cross genre thriller. The survival aspect will appeal to fans of […]

Arc Review: Fire Falling by Elise Kova & Giveaway!

Arc Review: Fire Falling by Elise Kova & Giveaway!

I’m thrilled to be a part of the Fire Falling Release Tour today! I absolutely loved Air Awakens, so when it came to starting Fire Falling, I was a little hesitant. Its always a little intimidating, when you aren’t sure if you will like the next book in a series as much as you liked the first one. Of course, there is always  uncertainty, but it definitely feels heavier when you love the first book. I started Air Awakens right before I went to bed one night and I stayed up way too late reading it. When I picked up Fire Falling, I was worried I was making exactly the same mistake. It’s just as easy to read as Air Awakens and it has the same beautiful flow. However, I was a little disappointed in the first 50 pages. Vhalla is very upset after the events in the first book and is still reeling. 50 pages into Fire Falling, it had a much different and more serious feeling than I had expected. At that point, I wasn’t hooked the way I was in Air Awakens, so I shrugged, closed the book and went to sleep early. The next morning, I got up early and picked Fire Falling back up. I just expected to read for a few minutes and the go on with my day. Imagine my surprise when suddenly […]

FFBC Review: The Anatomical Shape of a Heart by Jenn Bennett

FFBC Review: The Anatomical Shape of a Heart by Jenn Bennett

This book was really good. I really enjoyed how driven Bex is. She know’s what she wants right from the beginning and she has a plan on how to get it for herself. She doesn’t expect anyone to do anything for her. She’s doing the hard work to make her own dreams come true. I really liked Bex. Jack  is tall, dark and mysterious right from the start. He notices Bex right from the start. Their flirting was just adorable and very unique. This wasn’t like any book I’ve read this year, maybe not ever. Bex has a really unusual passion. She likes to draw anatomy and wants to become a medical illustrator. Due to this goal, she asks permissions from the local college to have access to their Willed Body program. With this access she can draw cadavers and gain the experience and practice that she needs. I thought this was such a creative detail and a big part of me loved it. I know nothing about Medical illustration and I’ve never thought about the need for people to do that. It seems like every character has a weird name or an odd hobby these days, so at first my jaded mind was a little bitter about it. However, as I kept reading, it really grew on me. Bex’s hobby fits her character and is woven throughout the […]
