SST: Guest Post by Charlotte Huang

For the Record by Charlotte Huang Published by Delacorte Press on November 10th 2015 If Almost Famous were a YA novel . . . a raw, honest debut celebrating music, friendship, romance, and life on the road. Chelsea thought she knew what being a rock star was like . . . until she became one. After losing a TV talent show, she slid back into small-town anonymity. But one phone call changed everything  Now sheÂ’s the lead singer of the band Melbourne, performing in sold-out clubs every night and living on a bus with three gorgeous and talented guys. The bummer is that the band barely tolerates her. And when teen hearthrob Lucas Rivers take an interest in her, Chelsea is suddenly famous, bringing Melbourne to the next level—not that theyÂ’re happy about that. Her feelings for Beckett, MelbourneÂ’s bassist, are making life even more complicated. Chelsea only has the summer tour to make the band—and their fans—love her. If she doesnÂ’t, sheÂ’ll be back in Michigan for senior year, dying a slow death. The paparazzi, the haters, the grueling schedule . . . Chelsea believed she could handle it. But what if she canÂ’t? I’m so happy to have Charlotte Huang on my blog today talking about the 10 things she didn’t know before she became an author. Writing is such a mystery to me but sometimes its fun […]

FFBC Review: The Anatomical Shape of a Heart by Jenn Bennett

FFBC Review: The Anatomical Shape of a Heart by Jenn Bennett

This book was really good. I really enjoyed how driven Bex is. She know’s what she wants right from the beginning and she has a plan on how to get it for herself. She doesn’t expect anyone to do anything for her. She’s doing the hard work to make her own dreams come true. I really liked Bex. Jack  is tall, dark and mysterious right from the start. He notices Bex right from the start. Their flirting was just adorable and very unique. This wasn’t like any book I’ve read this year, maybe not ever. Bex has a really unusual passion. She likes to draw anatomy and wants to become a medical illustrator. Due to this goal, she asks permissions from the local college to have access to their Willed Body program. With this access she can draw cadavers and gain the experience and practice that she needs. I thought this was such a creative detail and a big part of me loved it. I know nothing about Medical illustration and I’ve never thought about the need for people to do that. It seems like every character has a weird name or an odd hobby these days, so at first my jaded mind was a little bitter about it. However, as I kept reading, it really grew on me. Bex’s hobby fits her character and is woven throughout the […]

Z Resurrected Tour: Eric A Shelman Interview

Z Resurrected Tour: Eric A Shelman Interview

Please tell me about the world your stories are set in. How did the zombie apocalypse happen? Our story begins in June of 2011 in Georgia and Florida. The zompoc begins when a fissure opens in the planet, and an ancient gas from the planet’s creation begins to seep from every surface of the planet, affecting 90% of all living beings. There is a particular toxic compound on earth found in some particular plants, and if you are that, you are also immune to the zombie virus. Tell me about your zombies. Are they Fast or Slow? Smart or instinct driven? There are two types of zombies in Dead Hunger; Mothers and Hungerers. The mothers were pregnant at the time of their “change”. The Hungerers are everyone else. While the Hungerers are slow, the Mothers can strategize to a degree, and can ultimately control the movements of the Hungerers. Hungerers are slow and plodding, using mostly sight to detect food; they do not have good hearing (rotted eardrums) and do not smell as they do not breathe. The Mothers have bursts of tremendous speed, and can even leap into the air when they want to get a bit closer to you … What sets your zombies or your world apart and makes it different? See the above. Part of their offensive tools include a chloroform like eye vapor that emits when prey is […]

SST Review: Dreamstrider by Lindsay Smith

SST Review: Dreamstrider by Lindsay Smith

Dreamstrider by Lindsay Smith Published by Roaring Brook Press on October 6th 2015 Format: ebook Source: Free for Review, Netgalley A high-concept, fantastical espionage novel set in a world where dreams are the ultimate form of political intelligence. Livia is a dreamstrider. She can inhabit a subject’s body while they are sleeping and, for a short time, move around in their skin. She uses her talent to work as a spy for the Barstadt Empire. But her partner, Brandt, has lately become distant, and when Marez comes to join their team from a neighboring kingdom, he offers Livia the option of a life she had never dared to imagine. Livia knows of no other dreamstriders who have survived the pull of Nightmare. So only she understands the stakes when a plot against the Empire emerges that threatens to consume both the dreaming world and the waking one with misery and rage. A richly conceived world full of political intrigue and fantastical dream sequences, at its heart Dreamstrider is about a girl who is struggling to live up to the potential before her. I really enjoyed this book. When it comes to fantasy, I’m a sucker for a unique and interesting culture and this book has it in spades. I absolutely loved the religion! This world’s ‘God’ is called The Dreamer and he watches over them in their dreams. Dreams […]

S.F.D. Open Letter to Sarah Glenn Marsh

S.F.D. Open Letter to Sarah Glenn Marsh

Agent E reporting for duty! Talina has put together a crack team of agents with one goal in mind; to highlight and feature debut authors. We will be posting missions as they are assigned to us, so keep a look out for more! Dear Ms. Marsh, Thank you so much for writing Fear the Drowning Deep! I know it doesn’t come out til September but I’m already looking forward to it. I can’t imagine how authors, like you, can write and create books. I know many readers are writers too but I’ve never had that bug. Since I have never had the urge to write, it makes me that much more grateful when someone does. Writing is hard work that I don’t want to do. I just want to reap the rewards of your labor. So thank you again for writing a book for me to enjoy! I’m so excited about your book. The cover is gorgeous. You scored with whoever did your cover art because it is so so pretty! Just look at it. I’m sure you have. You probably sit and stroke it. I know I would if it were my book. I love the color. The blue-green fits perfectly with what I assume the theme of your book is. The synopsis is all about the ocean and people who are drowning, so seeing the girl on […]

FFBC: Guest Post by Jennifer Walkup and GIVEAWAY

FFBC: Guest Post by Jennifer Walkup and GIVEAWAY

I’m thrilled to have Jennifer Walkup here today. She’s listed 10 things that people wouldn’t normally guess about her. I love hearing about the little things that make people interesting. Jennifer picked some great ones too. I love to read but I feel more connected to authors when i feel like I know them. I’m starting This Ordinary Life today and I after reading Jennifer’s list I can’t wait!  10 things people wouldn’t guess about me This Ordinary Life is my second book published, but my sixth book written. My favorite color is yellow. Bright yellow, like sunshine yellow. My favorite pizza topping is broccoli and fresh garlic. It’s so good, trust me! 13 is my lucky number. I love writing on trains (which I wish I had opportunity to do more often). I love Halloween. ItÂ’s my absolute favorite day of the year! I have never read or seen any of the Harry Potter books or movies. (I know, I know, itÂ’s crazy! I need to get around to it sooner or later!) I have three tattoos. If I had to choose between never reading again and never writing again, I couldnÂ’t do it! I donÂ’t watch TV and therefore have no idea what most people are talking about much of the time. Ha!   Award-winning author Jennifer Walkup is most often found writing, reading, and […]
