I’m really excited about this. Kendice and I will be participating in our first joint reading challenge! Aentee from Read at Midnight is hosting the Dumbledore’s Army Readathon (#DAReadathon) to promote and celebrate diverse books. There are seven different prompts that encourage reading a variety of diverse books. All of them are listed below with Kendice and my picks for those prompts. I will be reading for Hufflepuff. This is new for me. I’ve always thought of myself as a Ravenclaw, but I’ve been sorted into Hufflepuff by Pottermore twice now. I’m going to try on this new identity and see how it fits. I actually have always thought of myself as a Slytherclaw. Still, if Pottermore is so sure, maybe it’s worth exploring. The Sorting Hat is always right, right?     One of my best friends is Trans and I chose Beast in honor of her. We live in different states and I don’t get to see her as much as I’d like. I want her to know how much I love her and miss her all the time. When I consider an issue close to my heart I think of mental health. My mother has struggled with depression since the early 90s and it’s had a huge impact on my family dynamic. On top of that, I’ve heard the greatness that is this book and I absolutely adored […]

Review: The Sun is also a Star by Nicola Yoon

Review: The Sun is also a Star by Nicola Yoon

The Sun Is Also a Star by Nicola Yoon Published by Delacorte Press on November 1st 2016 Genres: Contemporary, Young Adult, romance Pages: 384 Format: Paperback Source: the publisher Buy on Amazon Goodreads Natasha: I’m a girl who believes in science and facts. Not fate. Not destiny. Or dreams that will never come true. I’m definitely not the kind of girl who meets a cute boy on a crowded New York City street and falls in love with him. Not when my family is twelve hours away from being deported to Jamaica. Falling in love with him won’t be my story. Daniel: I’ve always been the good son, the good student, living up to my parents’ high expectations. Never the poet. Or the dreamer. But when I see her, I forget about all that. Something about Natasha makes me think that fate has something much more extraordinary in store—for both of us. The Universe: Every moment in our lives has brought us to this single moment. A million futures lie before us. Which one will come true? I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. This was an amazing book. I went into it apprehensively because Everything, Everything ended up rubbing me the wrong way. I picked this […]

WoW: The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles

WoW: The Edge of Everything by Jeff Giles

What I Love So this one is a little bit of a cheat. I admit, I’ve already read this but it doesn’t come out for months and I haven’t been hearing much about it. I will post my review in December but I wanted to start talking about it now. This book is really special. If you haven’t thought about it up until now, I’m urging you to take another look. It has bounty hunters and love and grief and truth. It’s one of the truest books I’ve read this year. I can’t wait to buy my finished copy. If this one isn’t on your radar, it needs to be!

WoW: Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill

WoW: Ever the Hunted by Erin Summerill

This is a meme hosted by Breaking the Spine! What I Love Uh? EVERYTHING! I don’t even know where to start. This synopsis has me waiting for a kickass bounty hunter heroine that has to choose between her childhood love and avenging her father’s death. There’s sure to be tough choices, moral ambiguity and a fantastic adventure. Even if the summary didn’t grab me, that cover is amazing. This book as one of my very favorite covers this year! The second I saw it, I wanted to read this book. Have you heard of this one? What do you think?

Awesome Indies: Love Connection by Camilla Isley

Awesome Indies: Love Connection by Camilla Isley

For more information, check out the Awesome Indies page How long did this book take you to write? I had to go back to the first Love Connection Word file and check the date to answer accurately. It is dated December 4, 2015. I finished with various rounds of self-editing in late June. Overall, it took seven months to write and another two to work with professional editors. Tell us about your book. Love Connection is a Romantic Comedy with two parallel story lines, Sliding Doors style. Gemma, my protagonist, is at the airport waiting for a connecting flight and she has to decide if she wants to crash her ex-boyfriend’s wedding or be made of honor for her best friend. The separation of plots takes place when a flight arrives on time as opposed to be delayed and Gemma meets someone at the airport who unknowingly changes her mind on what to do. I thought it would be fun to explore where two opposite decisions would bring Gemma in her life. What was your favorite part to write and why? The best part for me was to write each chapter in two ways, one for each of the two parallel universes. Each moment in the story is split in two, and I was so fascinated by how Gemma’s life, her emotions at certain stages of the story, could […]

The Chasm by S. Usher Evans Series: Madion War Series #2 Published by Sun’s Golden Ray Publishing on July 12th 2016 Genres: Fantasy, romance, Young Adult Pages: 296 Format: hardcover Source: Free for Review Buy on Amazon They survived The Island, but can they cross The Chasm? Four months after Prince Galian was discovered alive on a remote island, he’s adjusting slowly to life at the hospital under the Kylaen media’s glare. His promises to Theo remain unfulfilled as fear of his father keeps him from taking concrete action. And the more he learns about the machinations in Kylae, the less sure he is that it’s possible to make a difference. Across the great Madion Sea, Major Theo Kallistrate struggles to navigate the tricky political waters of Rave’s presidential staff. To make positive change for her people, she must remain relevant and interesting to the Raven media and to the president. When he asks her to deliver a speech on her supposed two-month imprisonment at Mael, she’s not sure she can stomach the lies. The Chasm is S. Usher Evans’ breathtaking, fast-paced follow-up to The Island, which readers say is “not to be missed.” As you might know, I really enjoyed The Island. There’s something special about two enemies, shipwrecked on an island and then fall in love. The romance is woven into a larger and more complex fantasy tale about an […]
