Nice Try Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke: Spotlight & Giveaway

Nice Try, Jane Sinner by Lianne Oelke Published by Clarion Books on January 9th 2018 Genres: Young Adult Pages: 432 Format: Paperback Source: the publisher Buy on Amazon Goodreads The only thing 17-year-old Jane Sinner hates more than failure is pity. After a personal crisis and her subsequent expulsion from high school, she’s going nowhere fast. Jane’s well-meaning parents push her to attend a high school completion program at the nearby Elbow River Community College, and she agrees, on one condition: she gets to move out.   Jane tackles her housing problem by signing up for House of Orange, a student-run reality show that is basically Big Brother, but for Elbow River Students. Living away from home, the chance to win a car (used, but whatever), and a campus full of people who don’t know what she did in high school… what more could she want? Okay, maybe a family that understands why she’d rather turn to Freud than Jesus to make sense of her life, but she’ll settle for fifteen minutes in the proverbial spotlight.   As House of Orange grows from a low-budget web series to a local TV show with fans and shoddy T-shirts, Jane finally has the chance to let her cynical, competitive nature thrive. She’ll use her growing fan base, and whatever Intro to Psychology can teach her, to prove to the world—or at least viewers of substandard TV—that she has what it takes to win. I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does […]

FFBC: BlackSouls

FFBC: BlackSouls

I have been waiting and waiting and waiting for this book since the second I read BlackHearts ending. It’s ending was so heart wrenching that I was torn when I started BlackSouls. One one hand, I was really excited. I NEEDED to know what happened to Teach and Anne. Blackhearts ended with them in such a precarious position. Still, on the other hand, I was almost hesitant to pick it up. I was scared to know what was going to happen to Anne and Teach in this book. Would their love survive??? When I first started BlackHearts, Nicole actually messaged me on twitter to tell me that it wasn’t so much about pirates. I was perfectly OK with that, BlackHearts didn’t need pirates. It wasn’t a pirate book. If that disappointed you though, you will love BlackSouls. It has all the piratical accouterments that you want and that you might have found lacking in the first book, PLUS romance. How can you go wrong? You can’t. Read this book. For me though, the best part of BlackSouls was the new ensemble cast. There are a bunch of new characters to meet and fall in love with (and you will). I loved the quiet charm of the first book but I also love all the ships and battles and action of the second. I don’t know what the next one will hold, […]

Waiting on Wednesday: Invictus by Ryan Graudin

Waiting on Wednesday: Invictus by Ryan Graudin

The synopsis AND the author have me chomping at the bit for this book. I loved Graudin’s Wolf by Wolf series which is an alternate history WWII story. Invictus includes time-traveling, plundering pirates, and a mysterious girl that has life-changing knowledge (anyone smell romance, because I do!) The synopsis mentions the Titanic and I’m interested to see how real history mixes with Graudin’s imagination again. Her writing is superb and her ideas are always original. This September release can’t come soon enough for me!
